Statement of Support for the REV UP Campaign & National Disability Voter Registration Week

National Disability Voter Registration Week brings together disability rights advocates, local, state, and national disability organizations, civil rights organizations, elections administrators, and our allies to increase nonpartisan voter registration, education, and participation in the disability community.

In 2016, according to Rutgers University, people with disabilities accounted for 35.4 million eligible voters. When you add family members in the same household; that number increases to 62.7 million eligible voters, or 25% of the total electorate. Yet, people with disabilities register and vote at rates that continue to lag behind voters without disabilities. Elected officials make decisions every day that impact the ability of people with disabilities to live, work, and play in our communities, and people with disabilities must become an active voting bloc to ensure our voices are heard in that process.

National Disability Voter Registration Week empowers people with disabilities of all ages, ethnicities, genders, religions, and political affiliations to get involved and be heard by registering to vote, updating active registrations, and educating themselves about the electoral process.

The REV UP Campaign launched in early 2016 and coordinates National Disability Voter Registration Week. REV UP engages in nonpartisan activities to increase the political power of the disability community while also engaging candidates and the media on disability issues. REV UP stands for Register! Educate! Vote! Use your Power! REV UP helps organize the disability community at the state and local level to get more people with disabilities registered to vote and involved in the political process. It also raises the national profile of the disability community as an influential voting bloc.

We support National Disability Voter Registration Week, the REV Up campaign, and voters with disabilities!
